Progress report at the end of March 2009

So March ends with figures that on paper don't seem too bad...but as far as making any money this year things look dismal.

Tipping Legends:

There is no doubt in my mind that these guys know how to bet. They proved it last year and some of the long odds shots that win prove they can still do it. Consistency is the problem and so this year my faith in the bets has wained. Without the Cheltenham festival I would be 36 points down for the year. To sum it up ..if I hadn't done so well with them last year I would have dropped them like a stone. I have decided to struggle on with them at least for another three months. Thoughts that come into my head are: Has the edge gone? Has their luck run out (thinking of all the seconds they have had)? Have they been distracted with the purchase of their own horse. Should I just bet with them on the big festivals? As a final note I was surprised to see they included the winning e/w double bet at the Cheltenham festival in their published results. This bet only won if it was placed at two specific bookmakers, which were not stipulated as far as I can remember in the tip. Obviously I didn't bet at the right ones!

Probandit

Again here is a service that last year only managed one losing month(which happened to be my first month with them!) I had a great November and December with them but since then form or luck has left them. Still only 3 points down at the moment and the service fees are low so I have no problem continuing this service. I have decided however to up the stake from £50 to £100 a point from the 1st May. This is not loss chasing however, it is something I had decided upon at the start of the year. There is also a new researched staking plan coming into play this month which I may paper trade before I jump into it.

I can only try and be positive going into April. It is historically a disastrous month for me with no form on the flat. Any money I have made in April historically has been on the NH racing. What I know is essential is the weather. If the flooding starts again this year I may well opt out of all flat racing....it turns the form cards to shreds and betting becomes even more of a lottery.

Another poor month to add to 2009's dismal start. Will post my feelings above about each service.

Just the one bet in total today with Tipping Legends managing to pick the last finishing horse in the 3.05 Wetherby...Rimsky Korsakov. Will post up the monthly and year to date losses in a while plus a few thoughts on how it has gone with each service so far this year.

Monday profit

Not a bad start at all to the week with Probandit pulling in nearly 5 points. Smokey Rye winning in the 2.20 Wolverhampton at 26/25 and then later in the day in the 3.20 Jord won at 4/1 despite drifting to 15/2 before the off.. I only had part of the bet on BOG.

Nice to post some green colour for profit again...but checking back last Monday started in profit too and then look what happened!

More rubbish

No point harping on about coming 2nd as all 3 of Tipping Legends bets did today. In the end if they are last or second it doesnt matter they are losing bets.

Busy day for Probandit today..again starting well..but in the end only one winner and the inevitable loss for the day. Handsinthemist drifting to 6/1 and winning. Of course I wasn't on a BOG bet!

Only thing for it is a curry and some drink!

On the whole pretty depressing

Another useless day to add to the blog im afraid. Only place I am going fast at the moment is nowhere!

Nearly 3 months into the year and Tipping Legends stand at nearly -11 points for me, not taking into account the subscription fees. Take out Cheltenham results and its been woeful this year. Today another 2 pointer Painter Man at 7/2 finished a poor 11th.

Probandit started well today with a win for Imprimis Tagula at Southwell. However the failure of Jonnie Skull and Green Agenda (beaten by a nose) to take anything out of the last race at Southwell left me only slightly above break even.

I must admit...

That when I was placing Tipping Legends bets today I was thinking "man these are crappy bets". In the end I was right..Winsley Hill was third in a field of 3 and Approved Force finished fifth 22 lengths behind the winner. Of course if they had won the tipsters would have "legends". But this is how it is this year so far. I am sitting treading water until the good months come..but boy is it hard on the patience.

Probandit had only one bet today in the last at Kempton. Resplendent Alpha finished second at 8/1 giving me some small profit. They also informed me of a very interesting staking plan involving their system bets and the fact that over 70% of system bets started shorter than the morning price. It has shown successful results though it has a major drawback in the fact I would need to be on betfair 5 minutes before the off. This I am not sure I could be bothered with or even if it is possible 50% of the time due to my work schedule. Still something to think about.

Poor racing

Slow day with poor racing today. Yesterday I won with a BOG bookie..today I used a different bookie and missed a winner that drifted slightly..such is the swings and roundabouts of betting.

Two bet for Legends today. Master Nimbus was a late non runner and later on a 2 point strong bet on Gilded Youth at 7/2 in the 5.10 Southwell only managed 4th.

Probandit dutched Green Velvet, Elusive Dreams and Bataleur in the 3.50 Lingfield. Green Velvet won at 47/25 (2/1 SP) with Bataleur coming in a close 2nd.

BOG equals profit

Without BOG today I would have broke even, but luckily I grabbed the 2/1 available at Betinternet and Freeze Up won in the 5.20 Plumpton at an SP of 100/30, while I drove home through the rush hour traffic. Really struggled to get bets on the other two bets today. I had to go to 4 bookies each to back Jersey Countess at 33/1 down to 22/1 and the win bet of Super Lord at 10/1. In the end the effort was wasted though Jersey Countess did manage a 4th. At least all my horses took the correct course today!

So small profit today with only Tipping Legends in action. Really want to make the most of the next week or so before the Flat season starts. April historically has been poor for me while the Flat form settles. Indeed Equine Investments don't even start to bet during this uncertain period, preferring to wait until May.

Par saver

Retief Goosen secured his first US Tour win since 2005 by capturing the Transitions Championship and at the same time saving my weekend betting at the last hour. Took the lower odds available which guaranteed 6 places at Jenningsbet, but still a 35/1 win is more than welcome.

Only other bets today were with the Legends. For the second time in a couple of months my jockey took the wrong course along with 4 other jockeys. Funny how a master like Tony McCoy in the same race managed to go the right way and win the race? Last time my bet was refunded but not this time. So nothing for Come On Jonny in that race and certainly nothing for the poor choice of bet Lupita in the 5.00 Wincanton.

Saturday massacre for the Legends today...7 points bet with no return. Again a couple of seconds and a third..but nothing to lift the weekend mood.

Upwards movement for Probandit today to ease the losses from the legends. Arganil winning at 5/1 in the 2.05 Lingfield.

Weekly golf update tomorrow and we are still in with a chance with one of the bets at the Transitions Tournament...but still two rounds to go.

So as expected a hopeless weekend of betting. Bah!

Friday blues

Poor day again for Probandit. They just cannot get a run going at all. Its down, then up again , and then further down again. Has been like this all of 2009 so far. Can't remember the last time I had a profitable weekend.........surely this weekend is it?

Tipping Legends had a break even day. A couple of strong 2 point bets in Sa Suffit at 100/30 and Cast Iron Casey brought us no joy. It was up to Dastardley Dick to bring us a win at 5/1.

Probandit as mentioned above..hopeless today. Back to the old tricks I'm afraid with the first race. Managed 2nd, 3rd and 4th! The dutch in the 7.20 Wolverhampton was on King of Legend and Alfredtheordinary . Both at relatively small odds and both not even getting into the top 5.

Profit two days in a row!

A rare thing this year, so far, to post daily profit in consecutive days.Today it was the turn of Probandit to pull some points in. Not a big profit but any profit is better than none!

Tipping Legends were very unlucky today posting two seconds from two bets. Cootehill at 13/2 and Cantgeton at 5/2 both placing second.

Probandit started in the usual trend. The first dutch managing to place 2nd and 3rd. Here we go again were my thoughts! However Thisonesforeddy won at 6/1 in the next and Marmooq won at 11/2 to leave me in profit for the day. Most notable today was that Marmooq won by a head...whereas most of the year I have been talking about being beaten by a head. So maybe the luck has started to turn? I wont speak too soon!

Profitable Wednesday

Moved back up the ladder again today thanks to a good day from Tipping Legends. Again not so good from Probandit..but at least one of their 3 horse dutch bets finally showed some profit.

Fairly busy day from the Legends with bets on 5 horses in total. Places for El Hombre Del Rio at 10/1, Prince of Slane at 8/1 and to top the day a win for Templer at 14/1. Only bad news was that they were all advised as 1/2 point each way bets.

Probandit had bets in 4 races today. The odds were higher than usual..but I think that's the way the system works sometimes. Started badly with Double Valentine and Style Award failing to even place in the first two races. However at the close of play we had a place with Mr Chocolate Drop at mostly 15/2 and ,as mentioned above, a winning 3 horse dutch race with Tartan Ghiga taking the spoils at 5/1.

A better day no doubt, but with a 14/1 winner, you would have hoped to show better daily profit. Lets hope today's profit doesn't go down the plug hole tomorrow.

Peeved off

Anyone following this blog must be beginning to think I am an expert in losing money. This year I have yet to have a sustained good run in either service..(and have dropped another service due its poor performance)whereas last year at stages I felt like I was growing money. Yes Ive had a 80/1 golf winner and yes I had a good Cheltenham..but apart from that I am leaking money. We have Equine Investments starting fairly soon too. I can only hope they do what did last year. At times last year I was beginning to think they were able to time travel the quality and consistency of the bets were so good....until of course the summer rain began..and that was that.

Tipping Legends today were hoping for a bit of St Patricks day luck today. Three bets , one 3 pointer, a 2 pointer and a 1 pointer. The four leaf clover never arrived. Shillingstone the main bet of the day was beaten by a nose, and Laredo Sound the 2 pointer traded at 1.52 or so in play. The result though was another 6 points lost.

Probandit had no system bets today.

So if anyone has any spare luck please send it over to me..as quickly as possible!

AmateurBandit

Nothing pro about Probandit at the moment as it again has a poor day. Its not that it is heavily down for the month its just frustration that the results arn't as consistent as last year. Still hopefully a good service can't suddenly go bad.....or can it?

Also posting the weeks losses for Birdie Service golf. I mentioned last night we would need a miracle to get anything this week. Well John Merrick (always have an image of the Elephant Man playing golf) nearly pulled one out of the bag. However his 6 under for the day left him in 6th ..therefore no good to me. Both Clark and Garcia in the other event never really got going.

Tipping Legends had 3 bets today and one winner. Quazar D'oudairies won nicely at Taunton at odds of 11/2. This was enough for a profit today. Was disappointed though with the 1pt EW bet with Super Judge failing to impress at Hereford.

One race for Probandit..dutching an amazing 4 horses. Guess what..managed 2nd, 3rd , 4th and 5th! Green Lagonda, Convince(also tipped by the legends), Patavium Prince and Flamestone all beaten by an 11/1 outsider in the 5.30 Kempton.

No bets today

No chance to try and recover my hammering from yesterday as both services take a day off. Will update the weekly golf bets tomorrow..though can't see any chance of moving forward the bank unless one of them pulls off a miracle final round.

Saturday 14 March 2009

24 hours later and..

Half my profits from last week disappear in the space of two hours! Very disturbing and annoying! Both services posting losses today.

Tipping Legends had four bets in total..two of them strong two point bets so I was hopeful of a result in one of them at least.Unfortunately neither did with Youngstown in the 2.20 Wetherby falling(would never have won anyhow) and Apatura Dik who was travelling well until a mistake forced it to pull up.The other bets ran equally as bad.

Probandit's bet were woeful today...either that or the luck isn't with the tipster at all at the moment.A three horse dutch in the 3.00 Lingfield saw the bets finish 2nd,3rd and 4th, while a later ew bet at 16/1 saw Grand Palace finish 6th.

So thoroughly annoyed tonight.

Cheltenham Festival 2009 - Day 4

All done and dusted and we got out with a healthy profit from the big festival 2009. Didn't get to see one race live either...will sort that out for next year. Brilliant to hear my favourite horse of all time "The Star" regain the title.. though I didn't place a bet on him...will watch the highlights later.
Why didn't I place a bet on him? If I had done he would have lost! I would be best suited as a lay tipster as anything I tip usually comes in last!

Bets placed with Tipping Legends today and my stakes were:

1.30 - Zaynar 75 ew 9/2(BOG 11/2), Walkon 75 ew 9/2
2.05 - Daves Dream 100 win 9/2, Sky Hall 50 ew 18/1,Sunnyhill Boy 25 ew 7/1
2.40 - Pride of Dulcote 150 win 7/2, The Twincamdrift 25 ew 16/1
3.20 - Albertas Run 25 ew 16/1, Knowhere 25 ew 125/1
4.00 - Cappa Bleu 100 win 11/2
4.40 - Piraya 50 ew 22/1, Big Eared Fran 50 win 9/2, Faltering Fullback 25 ew 20/1
5.15 - My petra 25 ew 12/1, Lorient Express 25 ew 16/1

I also backed the two e/w doubles but again no luck..though started well with Zaynar winning.

Pride of Dulcote & Piraya 25 ew
Zaynar & Sky Hall 25 ew

A total of £1350 staked with two winners being Zaynar at 11/2 and Cappa Bleu also at 11/2.Walkon gave a place return at 9/2.As I said above I really thought when Zaynar won the first the big double was on. Sky Hall ran well enough and I thought at one stage he was in with a shot...but alas he faded and the jackpot was gone. Also disappointing was Pride of Dulcote's close second. A win there would have changed the day dramatically.

One race covered by Probandit tonight which has just finished being the 8.20 Wolverhampton. Back down the ladder again after moving up it yesterday. Both Tourist and Tous Les Deux registering poor performances.

Cheltenham Festival 2009 - Day 3

Day 3 brought our first negative to the festival. I didn't get the chance to even check the results until about 7pm tonight due to an extremely busy afternoon in work.So much for being able to enjoy the festival!

Bets placed with Tipping Legends today and my stakes were:

1.30- Northern Alliance 50 ew 15/2 , Tranquil Sea 50 ew 10/1
2.05- Galient 50 ew 16/1 , Scriptwriter 25 ew 14/1 (my error Legends bet was 1/2 point win)
2.40- Tidal bay 50 ew 7/1
3.15- Big Bucks 50 win 6/1, Shakervilz 25 ew 80/1
4.00- Or Bleu 25 ew 18/1 , Akilak 25 ew 20/1 & Silverburn 25 ew 33/1 (my error again Legends bet was 1 point win)
4.40- Bowleaze 25 ew, 20/1, Poker de Sivola 25 ew 5/1 & 25 ew Alexander the Great 14/1

I also backed the two e/w doubles

Galient & Bowleaze 25/ew
Tranquil Sea & Or Bleu 25/ew

A total of £950 staked(though I used my free bet from Ladbrokes today so it will go down as £900 staked) with only the one winner in Big Bucks(even better as this was my free bet!) and two places being Bowleaze and Northern Alliance. Still no luck with the ew doubles today, and I did have some trouble getting them on at a few places, though if one comes in you will probably hear me screaming no matter where you are! Not a terrible day and as long as you get at least one winner a day things will never get too serious with the stakes I am playing with.So still up on the festival with tomorrow to come.

Just the one bet from Probandit today..and after my moaning yesterday they found a nice winner with Colorus romping home @ 5/2 ew in the 2.30 Southwell. A good days profit for them to counteract my losses with the Legends.

Cheltenham Festival 2009 - Day 2

A splendid day at Cheltenham for the Legends...lets hope this isn't them peaking and there is more to come. If only one of those e/w doubles came in we would be in dreamland. Anyhow with two days left we are well up but until its all over there will be no counting the cash.

Bets places with Tipping Legends today were:

1.30 - Can't Buy Time 50 win - 9/2- 4/1, Henessey 25 ew - 33/1, Parsons Pistol 25 ew -10/1.
2.05 - Mikael d'Hagnuet - 50 win 7/2, Knockara Beau - 25 ew 20/1
2.40 - Cooldine - 150 win 7/2
3.20 - Petit Robin ( without the favourite) 50 ew 9/2
4.00 - Altilhar -NR, Larkwing 25 ew 25/1, Great Endeavour 50 ew 12/1
4.40 - Silk Affair - 50 ew 14/1, Mr Thriller25 ew 14/1, Amore Mio 25 ew 12/1
5.15 - Gagewell Flyer 25 ew 14/1, Henry King 25 ew 25/1

I also backed the two e/w doubles

Silk Affair & Great Endeavour 25/EW
Mr Thriller & Henessey 25/EW

A total of £1050.00 staked with 3 winners(Mikael d'Hagnuet,Cooldine and Silk Affair) and 1 place(Petit Robin). A great day with main profits coming from Silk Affair and Cooldine).

Probandit had a couple of bets today. Its a good thing I am thinking long term as form has been poor recently. Both e/w bets failing to make a mark at all in their races. Barataria in the 3.05 Southwell and Hawkspring in the 3.45 Southwell the guilty parties today.

Cheltenham Festival 2009 - Day 1

Unfortunately couldn't take the week off for the biggest week in UK gambling, but have been kept up to date by Jp's brilliant live blog today. An expected busy day for Tipping Legends got off to a flier with Go Native winning in the first and Medermit a close second. From then on the day sort of stalled...but finished the day with a small profit from both services....though ROI percentage will be pretty low.

Tipping Legends had the following bets today to which I staked the following.

1.30 - Go Native 25 ew @11/1, Medermit 25 ew @ 14/1
2.05 - Tatanen 50 win @4/1 , Made in Taipan 50 ew @25/1
2.40 - Calin Alaan 50 ew @ 14/1 , Possol 25 ew @ 8/1 & Nenuphar Collonges 25 ew @16/1
3.20 - Askazar - 50 ew @ 20/1, Whiteoak 25 ew @ 18/1
4.00 - Garde Champetre - 75 ew @ 7/2
4.40 - United 100 win @ 9/2 & Caroles Legacy 25 ew @ 16/1

I also backed the two other bets they suggested:

£25 Ew Double consisting of Made in Taipan @25/1 and Nenuphar Collonges @16/1 and also had a dabble at 25 e/w on Snap tie @40/1.

A total of £1000 staked with two wins( Go Native and Garde Champetre) and two places (Medermit and Nenuphar Collonges). I believe Hills paid out on the e/w double despite Made in Taipan coming in fourth. I backed this with Paddypower who didn't pay out. I'm guessing they were restricted to three places..however if anyone knows any different please let me know!

A less busy day for Probandit with two races covered. A win in a three horse dutch by Princess Cagliari and earlier a place for Decider brought a small profit.

So profits for both services in the end..nothing ground breaking..but with so much staked I was pleased to get out of the day with something and hopefully the big profit will come later in the week.

The green eyed monster monster of jealousy visited me today when I checked out JP's site. Seeing his profit for the day, matching 50% of his stake on a 50/1 shot winner, shows this long slog can be worthwhile. Certainly I could do with a winner like that at the moment!Congrats to him though.

Saturday update

Heading out early tonight and with the bets all done and dusted I thought I would get the blog out of the way.

Tipping Legends went for the jugular today with 3 bets ranging from 9/1 to 20/1. To be honest their analysis was top notch today. My Friend Sandy 20/1 and Prince Taime 16/1 both getting placed today and running pretty much as the emailed said they would. The placings were enough to post a profit today.

Probandit also posted a small profit today. Nothing in the first race today with the favourite Fesko well beaten. A dutch style bet in the 3.30 Wolverhampton(despite the email suggesting Lingfield?) saw Flipando win at 7/2.

So the first day in a while I can post green for profit on both services. Also to be noted is that Centrebet refunded my bet yesterday, where if you read down to yesterdays posting, Etxalar won by 16 odd lengths but was disqualified along with 4 other horses for taking the wrong part of the course. As a result I have edited my figures for yesterdays posting. So well worth checking to see if the bookie you placed the bet with did likewise.

Seesaw

Up and down like a seesaw at the moment.A good day for one service balances up a poor day for the other. Still haven't found another service outside horse betting that I would consider yet...but still looking and hoping for good suggestions.

Tipping Legends today summed up the bad luck I am having at the moment.Etxalar was first passed the post today by 16 lengths only to be disqualified...and then Gala Evening was beaten by a neck. So close to being a superb day...but close doesn't pay for the holidays.

Good day though for Probandit on the all weather. Barodine winning at 100/30 in the 6.50 Wolverhampton and then in the next race, a three horse dutch, brought me another winner in the shape of Common Diva also winning at 100/30.

Profit on the day at last...which actually puts me into profit for the month as well. A massive 3 pointer nap for the Tipping Legends Picts Hill romped in by 24 lengths at advised prices of 9/2. Only £50 staked on a BOG bookie with the SP being 13/2. The other £100 was at 4/1. Pity as I usually use BOG bookies as much as I can...today I, in the process of spreading my bets to other slightly less used bookies, didn't! One other bet today Magot de Grugy challenged well but only managed second place.

Red for loss again

I really hope people arn't putting all their eggs in one basket with the Cheltenham festival starting next week. If Tipping Legends do not pull off a good festival I would think quite a few of the members may kiss them goodbye. The poor run continues today for both services in action.

Tipping Legends tipped two bets today. Blue Hills failing miserably in the 2.50 Wolverhampton at 9/2 and later in the day the each way tip Milan Deux Mille failing equally as miserably in the 4.00 Stratford at 10/1.

Probandit had a busy day of strategic dutching which failed to hit the mark. Not too much damage done though with Jake The Snake winning at 5/2 and in the last race Blue Tomato winning at 7/4 and a place for Hart of Gold at 10/1 on small stakes.

So no good news at all at the moment..but as I know myself it can all change very quickly when you least expect it.

Calming down

After my rage from yesterday(I mustn't forget that no one forces me to place the bets) I am in the process of calming down. Its a new month..time to move on and forget the horrible month of February. Hopefully this month we can start building the bank again from the ashes and cinders left from following the services last month. Nothing has changed in my views on Allroundtipster though. I still feel they over risked on the final day of a poor month to try and caress the figures. If it is all about long term investment what difference does it make if one month is bad? Why risk a huge proportion of the bank to fix one month? Anyhow that's my final word on it.

Today was a quiet start to the month with only one bet running and also the midweek golf bets coming to conclusion. Not a great start to the month either. Thanks to Mob Racing for offering his service as a replacement to Allroundtipster. I have to decline at the moment despite his results looking very promising. I really need a non horse tipping service...to diversify the portfolio and also due to the staking limits I already have at the bookmakers with regards to horse betting.Today's results are below and I'll post monthly figures and year to date in the next post.
